Join us for our February book club! We're reading Adventures in Saying Yes: A Journey from Fear to Faith.

Hi everyone and welcome to the February OBO Book Club. This year we have a new project wherein our writers tackle one nonfiction book each month and provide a review at the end of the read. I’m Lisa from Inkwell and I’m kicking off February with a pre-read post for Adventures in Saying Yes by Carl Medearis.

About the book:

Adventures Await When You Overcome Fear

This is the story of a normal family of five living a very unusual life. The Medearis family has faced Middle Eastern prisons, death threats, being kicked out of a country two times, and war. It hasn’t always been easy, but in the midst of it all, the invitation of Jesus to follow and not be afraid has won the day.

But this is more than just their story. It’s also a guide to help you step out in bold faith. Whether the call of Jesus for you means international intrigue, giving up all you have for the poor, or simply being the suburban neighbor you were always meant to be, it’s time to begin your own adventure! To live a life where fear takes a backseat and God takes the wheel. In the end, of course, there are no promises of an easy life or a path free of troubles. But enormous blessings await those who walk in faith.

It’s time to go where Jesus is calling and do what God is doing. Don’t put off the adventure he’s been saving just for you.

Where I Found It:

I was randomly scrolling through Hoopla—under the Christian nonfiction section—looking for something new to read and stumbled upon this. Since we have several other books by the author in our house, I was immediately very interested to see what this one was about, especially since I didn’t know that he had written more books.

Why I Am Reading It:

Having read Carl Medearis’s other books, Speaking of Jesus, I was immediately delighted to find another book by him. His thoughts are very fascinating and thought provoking, his style is laugh out loud humorous, and there’s a lot of truth in what he writes. Speaking of Jesus has been very inspiring and even educational for me, so I am looking forward to seeing what happens in Adventures in Saying Yes

What I Am Expecting:

Speaking of Jesus was not autobiographical at all, and yet it was full of exciting and interesting stories about Carl’s life. It had just enough detail to make me want to read more about his work and experiences, and from the synopsis of Adventures in Saying Yes, I assume that this book will cover more. I hope this one turns out to be more autobiographical/testimonial. But whether or not it does, I’m sure it will be full of Carl’s trademark humor, provoking questions, and thoughtful insights about following Jesus.

Stay tuned to hear my thoughts on the book at the end of the month! Be sure to follow the Book Club to see what our other writers will be reading this year! Hope you find some attention-grabbing reads to add to your tbr!

Cheers everyone, and have a lovely week.
