i’ll be the first to admit it: i get way more excited about christmas than easter.
i mean, with christmas, there’s the hot chocolate, the cozy weather, the decorations, the food . . .
the presents.
{how shameful}
and, yeah, for easter sometimes we get chocolate. but if i had to choose between living one of the two holidays on repeat for the rest of my life, i’m ashamed to say i wouldn’t think twice before choosing christmas (ashamed bc it’s not for the right reason).
but, of all holidays, easter should be our absolute favorite.
yes, christmas is amazing. it celebrates the birth of the savior of mankind: the reason we can wake up in the morning and keep going.
BUT . . .
what if that hope had died? or what if He had lived and just been a really cool guy, a really cool guy who loved everybody and was pretty perfect as far as you knew. a cool guy who even did miracles.
on easter, we celebrate something that no one else has ever done in the history of the world. OUR SAVIOR BROUGHT HIMSELF BACK FROM THE DEAD.
for three days, his followers hid in fear. they were confused, anxious. because there’s a whole world out there of people that claim to have answers and miracles and joy. but we’re kinda used to them all failing, right?
they’d dedicated their lives to this man. given up their trades as tax collectors and fishermen. they left their families, maybe even their wives or fiancees . . . and for what? to watch their leader be scoffed at by the most powerful people in the country as he hung there on the cross wordlessly?
all great stories have that climax: the point where it seems that all hope is lost. the superhero is knocked out on the floor; the girl has just gotten on an airplane to leave her hometown forever; the good guys are surrounded by a huge army.
but then comes the victory. the superhero finds the final burst of energy; the boy comes running out onto the airstrip yelling he loves the girl; backup arrives and the good guys conquer.
Christ rolls back the tomb, shining so brilliantly that the guards are knocked out.
so, reread the story you know so well. savor every word. be as excited about easter as you are for christmas because this is when we most specifically celebrate the beauty of the best gift we’ve ever gotten.
merry easter.
Hallelujah! =D That is a good point, so true. <3
Thank you! It was definitely eye-opening for me.
