Favorite moments of my life:
- Saving the final draft of the latest OBO magazine
- Uploading it to Yumpu so you guys can browse it for free
- Uploading it to Blurb and imagining what it’ll look like when I hold it in my hands
- Hitting “send” on the Mailchimp email announcing its release
- Posting on Instagram announcing its release
Every time I get to do another magazine release, I feel so honored. So honored that God has taken my two dinky skills, art and writing, and fused them together into something SO VERY COOL. There’s nothing more exciting than using your God-given talents in a very obviously God-honoring way.
So, it’s my great privilege to announce the release of ALTRUISM: a look at the power of kindness.

- The original cover photo didn’t have enough room at the top so our gorgeous model (Leah’s sister) had the OBO logo on her head (which who doesn’t want that but oh well) . . . so I ended up Photoshopping a large part of the top into existence.
- The photo on page six (look above . . . it’s of me, weird I know) was taken right before our meeting to plan illustrations for this issue. We met at a really cool coffee shop in town and I promptly got on the ground and bequeathed my sister with my polaroid camera to snap a shot.
- Page 13—I did that study this summer!
- The “Encouraging Others” article by Sarah Cnossen gave me quite a bit of trouble. It went through three big layout changes, then I kept messing around with the title page. Now it’s one of my favorites I’ve ever done because it’s so quirky.
- Page 20—The flowers in the background were drawn by one of my campers from the summer.
- The sassy words on the favorites page were originally a joke . . . but I thought they were funny so I left them in.
- Page 31—The weird mandala on the right page? Yeah. That was a class assignment I did for my Color Theory class. IT. MADE. ME. CRY. (Page 35 is also a class project)
- Page 33—This picture is of my friend and I took it for my photography classes. Am I reusing old class assignments? Why yes. Yes I am.
- Michelle, whose artwork is featured in the “His Mark Is On Us” article, went to my school as a Graphic Design major. And her Instagram, and art skills, are ABSOLUTE BOMB.
