Last year really got my prayer life in gear.
When I was at camp, I was a super mega cool Prayer Warrior. But, when I returned to life, I quickly remembered: we don’t talk about prayer. We don’t know what’s going on with each other, we don’t ask for updates.
So, sometimes, even when I have an extra few minutes and want to pray, I end up just scrolling on my phone instead because I simply don’t know what to pray for my friends. I end up just going through a list of people I know and praying:
“Well, um, give them a good day . . . help them in school . . . help them if they have a brother, or a sister I guess . . . um . . . help them??”
(I mean, we all need help)
(But being a bit more specific would really help)
*enter Colossians 1:4-9*
4 I give thanks to my God always for you because of the grace of God that was given you in Christ Jesus, 5 that in every way you were enriched in him in all speech and all knowledge— 6 even as the testimony about Christ was confirmed among you— 7 so that you are not lacking in any gift, as you wait for the revealing of our Lord Jesus Christ, 8 who will sustain you to the end, guiltless in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ. 9 God is faithful, by whom you were called into the fellowship of his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.
So, let’s take a very quick peek at what we can pray from this.
- thank God for them (“I give thanks to my God always for you”)
- pray that they are “enriched in him in all speech and all knowledge” (especially cool if they have a very difficult situation coming up where they need clarity of speech, or if they’re making a big decision and need Holy Help)
- pray that they are a testimony for Christ
- pray that they realize they aren’t lacking in any gift (contentment is so huge and so hard!!)
- pray that Christ sustains them
(This may even be a good prayer to pray for people you—well, let’s say it this way: you wouldn’t wanna be stuck in an elevator with them)
Challenge yourself for the next week to pray for ONE PERSON—just one!!—using these verses and inspiration.
